Poznań is one of the oldest cities in Poland. In its cathedral on Ostrów Tumski lie the first Polish rulers, Mieszko I and Bolesław the Brave. Every day at noon two mechanical goats come out on the tower of the Renaissance town hall and butt heads twelve times. In the legend, a cook burned the roast for a feast and tried to replace it with two stolen goats, but they escaped to the tower and started to fight there. On 11 November the whole city eats St. Martin's croissants, filled with white poppy seeds, which have protected EU status. Poznań has hosted big trade fairs since 1921, and it is known for being practical and hard-working. Today it is also an important center of business, IT and universities.
